Ogwang Clipper: “This (intro) song is about ‘Lamele’, a small yellowish bird in this area. This bird has been dangerous to the crops we plant in our gardens. There were plenty of crops, but they ate them all. The birds brought famine, because they fed on our grains.”

Ogwang Clipper plays ‘nanga’, a traditional instrument with seven nylon strings in a wooden box. Clipper is one of the most experienced and respected nanga players in northern Uganda. He performs with his female counterpart on vocals and his dancers with whistle and bells. Even his broken foot in plaster didn’t keep Clipper from coming all the way from his village to Kitgum town to perform this song.
