After eight great months -filled with music, dance and friendship- it is now time for us to leave Kitgum and travel back to Holland. Opira Morise Kato, one of Uganda’s greatest traditional artists, composed a farewell song for Daniel (Evert Daniel) and Ayaa (‘the only girl among boys’ -Karin). With tears in our eyes and fully inspired we say ‘Bye bye, until me meet again’. Thank you Kitgum. Thank you musicians. Thank you friends. We loved being with you and could not think of a better way to end our stay in northern Uganda.

Although we leave Kitgum, ‘Ugandan Recordings’ will still continue. More video clips will soon be uploaded: look forward to hearing from Sherry Princess, Brother Q, Cityboy, Abitingson and more songs of Ogwang Clipper! English translations of all the recorded songs are on their way and Erik van Bemmel is working on a website.

Who we are

Ugandan Recordings is a Wandering Songs project to uncover and document music from northern Uganda. The search has found artists with a variety of instruments such as adungu, lukeme, nanga, bila and orak. All recorded songs are accompanied by video clips.
